Chocolate Gingerbread
Ingredients
1/2 cp shortening
1/2 cp sugar
1 egg (optional)
3 squares melted chocolates
1 cp molasses
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/2 cps flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger1/2 tsp cloves
1 cp hot water
Instructions
1 - Cram the shortening; and work in the sugar.
2 - Add the egg, slightly beaten, if used, and the melted chocolate and molassesa beat until well blended.
3 - Sift the dry ingredients; and beat into the first mixture.
4 - Add the hot water; and beat until the batter is smooth and free from lumps.
5 - Transfer to a shallow oiled pan; and bake in a moderate oven, 350 degrees F. for 40 minutes or until firm in the center.
6 - Remove from the pan; serve warm or cold
