Both candidats for the U. S. Senate are taking "stupidly transparent out-of-season mudslinging shots" at each other. I wouldn't mind
if they were doing it in some obscure media but instead they are
"invading my living room through the TV" during my supper hour.
I have sent Emails to bothcampaigns informing them that I will be
voting for a minor party candidatelike Libertarian, Green,
Constitution, or other. Why should I WASTE my vote
on either of the major candidates. IT"S ABOUT THE ISSUES,
STUPID, but neither candidate seems to care about those.
I hope anyone reading this will think twice before helping
put either of these "turkeys' into office. - Frank

The City of Greensburg, PA is now proposing an ordinance to prohibit overstuffed sofas from front porches. Most proposals are usually already "done deals" so this one will probably pass and become law. I can envision a new breed of lawmen called the "Couch Police" cruising around the city looking for illegal couches. I wonder if this ordinance will apply to chaise lounges and padded Adirondack chairs?

Surely the people who thought this IMHO "frivolous & silly ordinance" must have too much time on their hands. - Frank

I laud what the law enforcement personnel did in stopping what could have a full blown terrorist attack in New York City. That said, I think the major media is not giving enough praise to the real hero here, the tee-shirt vendor whose prompt and alert action made way for the investigation. Were it not for him there could have been a major disaster. I am reminded of a messenger named Paul Revere, who warned everyone he could, that the British were coming.
The commentators I have heard miss the point that if we are truly at war, the general public should be "educated" by the government about how citizens can help to avert sabotage, and more terrorist acts by keeping their eyes open for any suspicious activities, whether it be a vehicle or an unattended box or suitcase in an inappropriate location, etc., etc.

Those of us old enough to remember can recall the slogans and public education done during WWII. I.e. - "Loose lips sink ships" and others. We need to extend the local "block and crime watches" to a more national level, especially in the bigger cities.

Again I congratulate the law enforcement people who did a good job once alerted, but think we need more ordinary citizen involvement in this war.- Frank

The comments of a recent "Tweet" by Newt Gingrich covering an article he did for the Washingtom Post are another attempt by a 2 party system establishment politician to stifle competition. The competition of 3rd parties have almost always led to reforms, and right now there is great need to reform our corrupt (IMHO) 2 party system. When Ross Perot became involved in the 1992 campaign he was able to predict many of the problems our country is having right now, i.e - Medicare and Social Security costs that are out of control. Unfortunately for the people he was kept out of debates, and the major networks used their influence to get rid of his infomercials that were putting the problems in front of the public. This same 2 party system very effectively crushed the national Reform Party movement by using the Federal Election Commission as a weapon to place a $330,000 lien against the national Reform Party. I could go on and on about the unfair tactics used by the Demopublicans to crush any competition but I will stop for now. - Frank

I want to apologize to any followers of this blog for the ads sponsored by Senator Harry Reid on my site. Wife Marianne was looking at my site this morning and saw a banner ad that asked viewers to sign a petition to PASS the so-called "Health Care Reform package" IMHO this plan and what has passed so far is an example of many of our representatives sticking their fingers in the eyes of their constituents by passing a bill that will bankrupt our country if not struck down in the courts. Thanks to the hard work of some to call their representatives, our local representatives (In my case Tim Murphy, and nearby Jason Altmire) voted NO. I hope this vote means they have taken seriously the duty they have to truly vote as their contituents want them to vote. As to Harry Reid and his "we don't care what the American people want, WE have the power" attitude. I wrote Mr. Reid a letter back in 1992 when he made the comments about Ross Perot, calling him a pest or whatever it was. My big hope is that Mr. Reid will be repaid for his attitude and actions by being defeated when he is up for re-election. As for the ads, if you see any ads on my site that don't seem to fit in with the comments here (and in the archives), email me and I'll "disappear " them. - Frank

The debate over health care reform has gone beyond being a debate. Statements are being made by the politicians at the highest levels in our government that in essence they are going to pass a bill no matter what the American people want. The tactics being used sound like the kinds of tactics dictators use. i.e. - Even though we know most Americans are against so called Obama health care, they are intent on passing a bill. The bill will probably be so watered down and innocent sounding that almost anyone can be persuaded to pass it. Once passed
it will then be modified. (I don't know how long the "mourning period" will be before they put what the lobbyists want put in it)

My advice to anyone reading this is to call your local congressmen and senators and let them know that if they vote "aye" on any bill that has not been "vetted" by the American voters, they will be voted out of office next time they are up for election.

Please get up from your computer, go to the phone, and call NOW(if you're reading this at 3 AM you probably should wait till working hours, but don't forget.

One of the lead articles in today's issue of the Greensburg Tribune Review is a reprint of an LA Times article whose heacline is "Senate Holdout Wins Deal on Health" with a subheadline reading "Democrats recast bill's abortion funding". The first paragraph reads "With a critical vote looming this weekend, Senate Democrats reached a deal with the lone Democratic holdout, Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson, who will back the party's health care bill aftersettling weeks of negotiating over abortion. This would give the Democrats the 60 votes they need to quash a series of Republican fillibusters and pass the bill by Christmas."

In the meantime all the polls I've seen indicate a majority of Americans do not want this or any other bill that will surely (IMHO) lower the quality of health care in this country while increasing its cost. I believe the justified outrage is out here among the people who keep up with these developments. The problem is that we no longer live in a "representative democracy". What we have is a"Misrepresentative Moneyocracy" where the voice of the people is becoming irelevant. OH yes, we can vote the rascals out, but when we do, we are merely changing to another set of rascals who will misrepresent us just as "well" as the ones we replaced.

Also remember that while this article focused on 1 "misrepresentative", there are 59 others who will voe=te the same way. We also need to remember how these people covered up most of the details of the bill by negotiating in secret. Also remember they are trying to cover their tracks by voting at 1:00 AM when most of the people will not be watching. Sounds very much like what the Pennsylvania legislators tried with their failed midnight pay raise legislation. I hope the fallout for the "rascals" in this healthcare bill will be the same. - Frank We DO need to punish those who have voted for this monstrous bill, but we need to keep reminding the "new rascals" that we are watching them closely and that they will become "one termers" of they fail to represent us properly. - Frank

Congratulations to the City of Monessen, PA where city property taxes, according to a report in the Greensburg Tribune Review, will go down 6% next year. Seems to me the City of Greensburg should take a look at their proposed spending as well as decreases in gas prices and savings in employee health insurance plans. One suggestion for Greensburg would be to stop the seemingly accelerating plans to convert tax paying properties to non-taxable properties (esp. the expansions of local colleges). I know it is tempting for the city to apply for federal grants to fund these expansions, then expect local property owners (and tenants who pay higher rents because of it) to pick up the slack.

Another point - In the same newspaper edition is an article entitled "County Budget $21 M in the red." (the M is Millions) Maybe our Westmoreland County Commissioners should go down and talk to the people in Monessen. They might learn something from these folks, who are within Westmoreland County.

Hats off to Jack Croyle of Mt. Lebanon (Pittsburgh suburb) for writing the following letter to the editor published by the Tribune-Review on 10/19/09. IMO it expresses the opinion of quite a few people. I will quote it word-for-word here:

"If you have any old unopened Cracker Jack (TM) boxes lying around, check them out. There may be a Nobel Prize in one."

I think the U. S. Government Administration is making a BIG mistake taking on Fox News. IMHO they are trying to fool the general public into thinking that Foxs News is more biased in their reporting than are ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN etc.etc. I think their targets are some of the Opinion programs such as (and esp. Glenn Beck), As a sometimes, sometimes not regular viewer of Beck, I marvel at the way he challenges them to come onto his show and answer a few questions. They probably are afraid, just like the major candidates in the later stages of the 1992 and the 1996 elections were afraid to engage with Ross Perot. They decided to run away rather than face losing, and being exposed for some ot the things THEY believe in.

IMO the only way they could shut FOX News down would be to do a Hugo Chavez takeover. If that were ever to happen in this country I think there would have T.E.A. parties (on steroids) in every little burg in the U. S. If you look for bias in every FOX news story (Not the well labeled "opinion" program stories) I think you will find at least one if not MORE biased stories on each of the other channels. If you remember the old commercial where someone says "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature", I think you could say the same about trying to fool the general public in the U. S.

This blog is not intended to be unbiased. I am reporting my own opinions here. That said, I challenge anyone in the administration to explain to me why they will not appear on the FOX News Opinion programs to answer a few questions. Sounds like they are "CHICKEN" to me. - Frank

I have not read the rules for the "Clunker Trade-in" deal but I wonder if I could trade my perfectly good clunker in, buy a bicycle (which gets infinite miles per gallon), and ask for cash back. I could put the cash to better use than investing in a new vehicle which would depreciate more than the $4500 allowance! I am being ridiculous to make a point. The whole idea sounds like another "half-baked politician born idea".

Another question - Were you aware that on January 9, 2009 Rep. Serrano of NY introduced a bill to repeal the 22nd Amendment to the U. S. Constitution? In case you haven't been around the planet since FDR was in office (BTW I HAVE BEEN :)), it's the amendment that limits the U. S. President to 2 terms. How outrageous is it to try to repeal that amendment???? VERY - VERY IMHO. Rather than change the max on terms we should go the OPPOSITE WAY and make an amendment to limit terms on ALL the congressmen and senators so they can't keep ripping off the public for more than 2 or 3 house terms, or 2 senate terms!

Just when I thought I had heard about it all, someone is trying to create a potential dictatorship in our country! That's my opinion!

Starting my comments with a question

Did the people who held the famous Boston Tea Party have to get a permit to board the ships and dump the tea into the harbor?

                    My short answer "NOT".

In Westmoreland County, PA we held a "Tea Party" on the past July 4th. It was held at the Bush Run Battlefield historic site.
About 1,000 people came and I thought it was a great success. I was disappointed when I heard that the original site choice for the event was
at the Westmoreland County Courthouse here in Greensburg, and that was turned down. It sounds to me like the local politicos
just don't want people to assemble on the very property they have paid for with tax monies. Seems to me this is a direct
violation of the 1st amendment to the U.S. Constitution which our elected officials have sworn to uphold!
I do laud the Tribune Review newspaper for publishing an account of the event. That was great. Now they need to
put an investigative reprter on the job to answer the "who, shat, when, where, why questions. My suggestion is to start at the Westmoreland County Courthouse.

I have embedded here a video of the Tea Party event held in Philadelphia. Take a peek if so inclined! -- Frank

My comments today are not really comments, but rather a series of questions. These questions are directed to:

                      County Commisioners of Westmoreland County
                      City of Greensburg
                      Church Community in this area.

Are you aware that at the present date, there is no viable homeless shelter in Greensburg, Westmoreland County(the one and only in Latrobe, PA is filled to capacity)?

Where do the churches in this area stand?

Are they aware of this problem and if so are they doing anything about it?

Does this mean someone, (and I know one), who is coming out of rehab for alcohol addiction has no place to go?

Does the tax money going to you (except the churches who are tax exempt) allow:

the one and only homeless shelter to turn people away?

1 - If these persons have no place to go where are they to stay?

2 - Should they sleep in a city or county park in a sleeping bag?

3 - Should they be taken in by a private citizen somewhere who sympathizes with their plight?

4 - Will they end up being a squatter in some vacant house, or apartment?

5 - If this is happening here, what is happening in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County?

6 - Are they allowing people to live under bridges and on the streets because there's no place else to go?

7 - Where do the people involved in the rehab programs for drug and alcohol addicts stand?

8 - Do they just dump these "rehablitated people out on the streets?

9 - Shouldn't part of the rehab process include placement of the people after they have completed the program?

10 - Who should be helping these people?

11 - Better question yet - why are they NOT helping these people?

12 - Is the Greensburg Tribune Review aware of the homeless problem in their own backyard?

13 - If they are unaware, why is this so, and shouldn't some investigative reporter be digging into this?

14 - Since there are no TV stations in Greensburg, PA shouldn't some investigative reporter from one of the stations in Pittsburgh be addressing this problem?

I hope these questions will help raise awareness of this problem that in current economic conditions can only get bigger.
